About

In 1973, Deutsche Grammophon commissioned Mauricio Kagel to compose a work in honour of its 75th anniversary. By this time, Kagel was already a leading figure in the musical avant-garde. He had been appointed Director of both the Institute of New Music at Cologne’s Rheinische Musikschule and the city’s Courses in New Music in 1969, and three years later had been awarded the Deutscher Schallplattenpreis for the DG recording of his stage work Staatstheater. The Yellow Label had released several Kagel recordings by then, always with innovative covers that reflected the cutting-edge nature of his music.
