Florence Price: Symphonies Nos. 1 & 3

The basic design of this cover is familiar enough: a portrait of a musician or composer, topped by the yellow cartouche. In this respect, it doesn’t seem all that different from many other DG albums. In fact, however, it is completely exceptional – a DG release whose cover features not just a woman (relatively unusual), not just a woman of African descent (even more unusual), but a female African American composer (a first).
