Leonard Bernstein
Ode an die Freiheit/Ode to freedom - Beethoven: Symphony No. 9 in D Minor, Op. 125
About
To celebrate the freedom represented by the fall of the Wall, Bernstein conducted Beethoven’s Ninth at the Berlin Konzerthaus on 25 December 1989. The symphony was played by an orchestra assembled specifically for the occasion. In an allusion to the states that had special ties with the previously divided city, it was formed of members of German, English, French, Russian and American orchestras.
